Gotta Love 'Em
Hello -- hope you are enjoying your summer...I have been diligently working around the house this week to organize everything and get everything in its place so that I can enjoy the rest of my summer. Today I had a professional development, however tomorrow I fully intend on rewarding myself for a good week by laying out at the pool in my obnoxiously neon yellow bikini, and giving myself a pedicure.
Anyway, the point of this post was not to share the details of my week, rather it was to share about how it started...
So, Monday morning, I woke up, showered, dressed and readied myself for a day of crossing things off my 'to-do' list...head to work for a bit (yes, on my first day of vacay), obtain a CDL handbook from the DPS (more on that later), register for professional developments, laundry, vacuum, you know, the regular house-keeping duties. Well, I decided that I didn't want to go into work empty handed, so, I ventured off my route, and headed to Sprinkles to grab some treats to share.

As I was driving back around the 610 loop toward 288 S, I get a frantic call from my husband -- Tate: "Amy, my car is GONE"
Amy: "Uhhh, did you look for it?!"
T: "Yes, I looked for it, maybe it got towed?"
A: "Didn't you drive it to the convenience store this morning to get an energy drink? Where did you park it when you got home?"
T: "No, I walked there. My car is literally gone. (Expletive) Can you please come get me and take me up to the school, I have guys to train at 10:30?"
A: "Yea sure, I'll be there soon -- call the towing company that is posted on the gate, and see if maybe you got towed"
So -- I drive home, I pull up and Tate is walking around aimlessly through the parking lot looking for his car. And, let's be honest -- Tate's car is kind of, hmmmm, how do you put it nicely?...well, you can't --it's a jalopy, which we fondly refer to as The Jalopagus -- why would anyone want to steal his car?! However, I was still very irked and kind of like, WHAT THE HECK, how did your car get stolen between 9:00am and 10:00am BROAD DAYLIGHT, in a guarded apartment?! So, he gets in...
A: Did you call the towing company?
T: No -- they ask for your license plate #
A: And?
T: I don't know the #. I need to call and ask my dad what it is.
A: HOW do you not know your license plate #? Call your dad now, we need to figure this out!
T: Drive around the complex one time.
A: Okay (I proceed to drive around the complex)
T: Okay it's not here, just take me up to the facility.
A: Well don't you want to figure out if it got towed or if we need to file a police report?!
T: I've got to get to work.
A: HOW can you not be worried about this? I'm going to call the apartment office and see if they have towed anyone this morning.
I call the apartment office, and no, there have been no cars towed, so, they advised me to file a police report. Well, you see, with NO LICENSE PLATE NUMBER how in the heck are you to file a police report?!
A: Can you please get your license plate number, and come up with a list of things that were in your car?
T: Ugh, I know who stole it -- there was a shady looking guy in the parking lot last night and I saw him walking around with some girl this morning, I know it was him, I bet he saw the Nike bags in the back of my car and thought I had something to steal. Okay I had a med ball, some rumble rollers, and some foam rollers.
A: Can you write all of this down? I'm driving.
T: I don't have any paper, just drop me off at the facility, I will take care of it later.
A: These guys can wait -- your car was STOLEN. You need to file a police report.
T: This is my job -- if you want me to file a police report right away then you can do it, it's not that important to me. It's not like they'll ever find the car. I just need to consider it a loss.
By this time we are to the university and at the athletic facility, and I drop him off -- we are fighting because I cannot understand #1 How he doesn't know his license plate number and #2 Why he doesn't care. (FYI -- I am SO totally turning into my mother because I was FLIPPING.OUT.) I call my aunt, who ends up hanging up on me because she cannot get me to calm down. I am crying, I am irritated, and I can't understand why my husband is so nonchalant.
I call Tate's mom, and they are trying to find the license plate number in their files, and then my aunt calls me back again. It's at this time that I decide I need to calm down, head back to the apartment, do another once-over of the apartment parking lot, get all of the information together and try to file a police report. So, instead of heading to work, I veer off and exit near the apartment. As I am rounding the corner onto our street, I am still talking to my aunt:
K: Amy, you just need to calm down, and just deal with this. It'll be okay.
A: Oh my gosh Krissy, I see Tate's car, oh my gosh, let me call you back, I think I see his car.
I am sitting at the stop light and am honking my horn over and over (as if somehow that will make the light change from red to green -- yes, I am so ridiculous, not sure how that would help). I see a tow truck driver hooking the car up, and I just blow through the red light as soon as all of the cars pass (good thing Houston does not use the red light cameras anymore).
I sped into the gas station parking lot just as the driver was about to get in the truck --
A: Oh my gosh this is my husbands car! It was stolen from our apartments this morning! (Pointing through the residential fence to our complex). Oh my gosh, is anything wrong with the car?!
Tow Truck Driver: The gas station called and asked to get the car out of here, it was left at the pump
Around this time, I peer into the back of the car and see all of the Nike bags still in their place, not unzipped, or rummaged through at all, his notebooks on the front seat right where he had placed them. Everything in it's spot and it clicks. Oh my gosh, Tate must have driven the car here and walked home. What the heck am I supposed to do?!
TTD: Well, the attendant says that I need to get it out of here. It's $75 to get me to drop it.
A: I don't even know if it is drive-able, or if anything is stolen or what. If I am going to pay $75, can you at least drop it at our apartment, it is literally a 100 yard drive. Please, we have been through enough this morning!
TTD: Okay, fine.
And now is when I call Tate, halfway hysterically laughing halfway with steam coming out my ears because I can't believe how much stress it has caused me.
A: I found your car.
T: Oh my gosh, where?!
A: 3rd Ward
T: What?
A: I'm kidding. So, what did you do with your car this morning after you drove to the gas station.
T: I already told you, I walked to the gas st....oh *expletive* I must have driven it there and walked back.
A: Yeah, I guess so. Well, $75 later, your car is parked in the parking lot at our complex.
T: Please don't tell my parents.
Bahahaha, I cannot believe that this happened -- I'm more worried that Tate has absolutely no recollection of driving to the gas station than anything, however, it has made for a nice joke all week.
T: How was your day?
A: Great, how was yours, did your car get stolen?!!
Gotta love him ;-)

Booked.
June 25 - July 14th, I will be in the FANTASTIC state of California. Can't wait! I will get to celebrate my aunt's birthday, have a belated Father's Day with the Daddio, and maybe mix in a little Vegas trip, some Tahoe, and of course, time well spent with my Grandma. Oh, and can't forget seeing the lovely KG before she heads south!
Until then, I have 3 - count 'em - 3 days left of school, one teacher work day, 3 professional development sessions scattered randomly throughout the coming weeks, a Student Council retreat, and lots of hours of lounging by the pool and working off the post-wedding bulge.
Tonight we are flipping channels between the Conference USA Baseball Championship (Go Coogs!), and the Dynamo game, and tomorrow Tate and I are going to visit my student who is still in the hospital after his accident. The kids raised quite a bit of money for him, so we are going to visit with his Dad and see if we can't purchase some PT equipment for him to use once he gets to go home. Monday we may have some friends over to hang out by the pool, and grill burgers, etc. -- gotta love Memorial Day weekend...and thank you to all of those who have laid down their lives for this country!
...and on a sad note -- my daisy has died. Unfortunately it got a disease...actually a fungal infection caused by not getting enough sunlight. I'm going to have to put the blame on my husband though, because I would always open the blinds before I left for work so that it could get sun all day, but Tate always closed them, poor little plant. I tried to save it, but, it has just been way too hot here lately. I put it out in the morning with water, and by the time I got home from work it was totally wilted and a lost cause. So much for my green thumb. I'm thinking plants are better suited for California, not in pot on my balcony, or my counter-top!

A few things...
#1 -- Please pray for one of my students. He was hit by a truck while riding his bike last week and was critically injured, and was transported via LifeFlight to a hospital here in Houston. We are having a replenishment blood drive in his honor to cover the blood that he has been given (a lot), plus some to help out the community on Thursday -- if you live/work/will be in the Alvin area between 8-2pm on the 12th, let me know...and if you can't, just continue to keep him, and his family in your prayers -- he and they all need some positive energy and the support of family and friends right now.
Here is a link to the news story about the incident : Boy, 14, Critically Injured..
#2 Forgive me for not posting about this earlier, Mom, but, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! I love you!!! My mom works tirelessly to make sure that my sister and I are taken care of if we ever need help, and she always steps up to help others, no matter what the inconvenience is to her. She is not a touchy-feely, huggy mom, but, even so, there is never a doubt about how much she cares for you. I am soooo lucky to have her as a Mom, and I wouldn't trade her for anyone! (PS I did call and send her a card, so, don't think I am that behind)
#3 Saturday was a really outstanding day. I woke up early, picked up breakfast tacos for Tate and I, and enjoyed my day. This past week was Teacher Appreciation Week, and I received a pretty gerbera daisy plant from one of my students. It was in one of the plastic pots, so, I figured if this plant had any chance of survival, I would need to get it a permanent home ASAP.
So, I found a plain, brown clay pot that the daisy could hang out in for a while. I think it brings a nice little splash of greenery to our kitchen...
#4 Because I couldn't buy an entire bag of potting soil for one little plant, I decided I should probably invest in some other plants to give our apartment more "life". I've never really had any plants to tend to, so, I thought that a variety of cactus plants would be a sound investment. They are used to arid environments, so, a few days without watering, wouldn't put them on death's doorstep, so I figured I could refine my green thumb with a pretty low maintenance plant...
I love the colors of the cactus flowers -- so pretty and vibrant.
Apparently Daisy likes them too, be careful little puppy, those spines hurt!!!#5 I love having a clean family room. I spent Sunday night putting away the pile of clean laundry that had accumulated on the couch, folded and put away the throw blankets, and dusted the tv stand, tv and accent tables. Daisy is soooo not on her end of the couch, by the way -- bad dog.

#6 I am not a master cake ball maker. Not at all. But, I did make these for Mother's Day. Their shape is totally awkward, but, they tasted quite yummy. You have to love single serving snacks -- all about moderation.

#7 I am reallllly loving the notebooks I got from Target over the weekend...the geometric patterns and bright colors make these acceptable material for the top of my desk...sorry raggedy old spirals, you are banished to the desk drawer.

Obsessed.
Since I can remember, I have always been interested in the goings on of the English royalty. Prince Harry and I share a birthday -- literally day, month and year (he is approximately 3 hours older than me) -- so that may have something to do with it. I can honestly remember where I was when I found out Diana died, and how I sat in front of the tv, virtually glued to the coverage for hours at a time...and any type of event that has to do with them automatically piques my interest. Soooo, the fact that Prince William, and Kate got engaged, and were to be married so close to my own wedding day definitely had me mesmerized from day 1.
When my alarm went off at 2:45am on Friday, I immediately got the coffee brewing, perched myself on the couch and got ready to spend the early hours of the morning being captivated by English glamor and excess...and the wedding definitely delivered! It was well worth the sheer exhaustion that I felt the.entire.day.
I mean, wasn't Kate just sheer perfection?! She was insanely elegant, and so gorgeous...I loved how she didn't look too "done up" -- so classic, and beautiful.
And definitely could not miss this moment...please note the time at the bottom of the screen 7:29am. I am adamant about leaving the house at 7:20am so that I am not in a rush to be at work at 8am...I got there at 8:05 because of this!!!!
My Royal Wedding fascination would not be made complete without owning my own souvenir from the wedding, with all of the tacky nick-knacks out there, I knew there had to be something that I couldn't live without. So, after searching high and low for the perfect memento, I found an awesome, absolutely non-traditional item that could hang out in my house without becoming clutter...
Ahhhh, I love it!!! I think that this mug is so fantastic and cute!!! One side features Kate...

So fun, right?! And since we are coffee every morning type of people, I am sure this mug will get tons of fantastic use! I just love the colors! I found it on Etsy - so if you can't live without it either, you can buy one here!
Anyway, there is my Royal Wedding experience...I can't wait to get our wedding pictures back so that I can share more of our day -- not quite a Royal Wedding, but tons of fun nonetheless!

Feeling 'Gilt'y
So, I'm going to be totally honest -- I have the post-wedding blues. And it's not like I don't have anything to do, either...I am in charge of the Athletic Award Ceremony for our school, as well as a Biggest Loser competition on our campus (because let's face it, I have totally indulged after the wedding, and clothes are not cute on a chunk), but I am just feeling a little down, and have become slightly addicted to GILT.
If you have never been on GILT before, I will give you the 411...Gilt was created in 2007, and features flash-sales with women's and men's clothing as well as children's and home accessories selling for 50%-70% below retail...Hello! Can you now see why I am totally addicted?!
Because of the high demand, and limited quantities, you have to get things quick -- as in, if a sale starts at 11:00CST, you best have everything you want in your cart by 11:01 or you are S.O.L. Don't worry, though, the sales do stick around for 36-48 hours, and items pop back up if people put them in their carts and then don't purchase after 10 minutes, and there are PLENTY of finds to go around.
Items go on sale EVERY DAY at 11:00am CST, and they are fair game for all Gilt Groupe members. For those of you with Smart phones, there is a GILT app which will send you notifications as soon as sales open up so that you can log-on and get to shopping while everything is still available.
Over the past couple of weeks I have placed two orders, spent approximately $110 dollars and got about $700 worth of merchandise, including a C&C California top, Cynthia Steffe top, 2 American Apparel dresses, and a Design History "summer" cardi-vest.
Membership can be requested on their website, otherwise, it is invite only...if you want to check it out, and sign up, here's the link. Though please don't tell me that I didn't warn you, because you will become addicted. Happy shopping!

Fantastic.
So, if you are like me, you have probably received about 8 million e-mails from different merchants including your bank, places you shop online, etc. notifying you that the company they use for mailing newsletters, offers, etc. got hacked...and now because of this, you are susceptible to phising attacks, e-mail hacking, etc. So, I would like to take this blog post to say, THANK YOU EPSILON for not only trying to figure out my spending habits, and sending me offers you think I will bite on, but, for letting my e-mail address to be out there for hackers...can't believe companies pay you millions for this!!!!

We're Married!
So, March 19th has come and gone, and I'm now a Mrs.! Today was my first day back to school, and the kids had fun calling me by my new name and asking 10,000,000 questions about the wedding...We had such a fun time! I can't wait to get our professional pics back, but, I will give you a peek at some that a family friend took so you can get an idea of the day!!!
The New "Siblings" - Tate's sister Channing, my sister Kate, and then Tate's brothers Gatlin and Bronson
We had our ceremony inside because of the unpredictability of the weather in the SF Bay Area this time of year -- fortunately we made that call, because it was rainy all day on Saturday...it was nice though that the fog lifted right before the ceremony so you could see the SF skyline in the windows behind us...not so hot on the aisle runner though -- ick!
Our gorgeous cake -- ah, I loved it...simply perfection. The layers were lemon chiffon, and then chocolate with chocolate mousse and raspberry. So yummy! I designed it myself, and I think it turned out so much better than I could have imagined!
Candy favors -- Several different candy choices, and sweet little mini take-out boxes with stickers that said "Love Sweet Love - Amy and Tate 3.19.2011"
Place card table -- the place cards were lined up in front of San Francisco post cards that I bought at Paper Source and corresponded to the name of the table instead of a number...ex. Palace of Fine Arts, Golden Gate Bridge, Conservatory of Flowers, Alcatraz, etc.
Table names printed in one of our invitation fonts on gold circles from Paper Source
One of our tall arrangements and the table settings -- this picture was taken prior to the reception, so the wall behind the chairs was gone during the reception, and opened up into a room with our bar, and several high top tables for people to hang out around
One of the low arrangements
Strings players during cocktail reception -- they played traditional songs during the wedding, and then during the reception played more contemporary songs like Viva la Vida, Clocks, Bittersweet Symphony, All You Need Is Love, among others. We had a DJ for the actual dinner/dancing reception
My uncle Bill, and my dad got my 95 year old Grandma up to dance -- love her! We had so much fun!!!!
Us - with my maid of honor, Kate, and Tate's best man, Gatlin

The Final Stretch
Gosh, I can't believe the wedding is in less than a week! So exciting! ~ and yet, there is still a lot of work to do! I got into the Bay Area on Friday morning, after what seemed like 15 hours of flying (approximately 5.5 including lay-overs), and was immediately whisked to the Claremont to tie up some loose ends in regards to wedding planning.
My lovely photographer Eva met us to walk the property and select locations for shots -- can't wait to see what she comes up with for pictures of Tate and I...there are so many fun places to get pictures! She also gave me the disk of images from our engagement shoot, so, sometime this week I will hopefully post more for you...we also met with my "day of" coordinator, Noelette, who is so freaking phenomenal...not sure what I would have done without her, and actually, she stepped in for us, because our previous girl took off on maternity leave until about 2 weeks after our wedding. We went over some room configuration plans, and the logistics of the day, and then poured over the invoices, etc.
Friday night, I went with my aunt and uncle to Chow in Danville for dinner, and then promptly passed out as soon as we got home, and slept for about 11 hours -- wow, I definitely needed it, and it will probably be the most sleep I get all week. Saturday was spent in Berkeley...I went with my mom and aunt to Paper Source to select paper for our programs, place cards, escort card frame, and table numbers. I love Paper Source, such a great stationery store! The rest of Saturday I worked on the program in Microsoft Publisher, had my final dress fitting, and we had a quiet night in.
Today, my aunt, Pancho [the dog], and I went to Lafayette Reservoir to get in some excercise. It was great until it started raining half-way around, so, that made for a quick jog to the car around the other side. For the latter half of the day, I formatted and edited the program, designed and typed out all of the place cards, and I got everything ready to go to press tomorrow. I have to deliver the files to the printer, and make sure that everything fits on our designated stock. We also had dinner at my dad's tonight. He made chicken picatta and asparagus, and we brought over a mixed green salad with bleu cheese, tomatoes and scallions...it was so yummy!
I am really looking forward to tomorrow -- I have a trial run for my hair, and for my make-up, and we are planning on going in to Walnut Creek to do some shopping for the wedding, and to pick up some stuff to make a Welcome basket for Tate's family. I can't wait for everyone to get into town, and for the wedding mayhem to ensue...I feel like the past couple of days, and the next few are really the calm before the storm, but, it will be so much fun, and it will be fun with the families hanging out and getting to know one another better!
Anyway, it is time for me to get some sleep -- and I need to use my white strips -- btw, the Professional Strenght White Strips are $55! Can you believe that?! Ridiculous, right?!
6 days 'til we get married!!!!

Teaser...
So, we are moving tomorrow, and I will probably be out of commission for a couple of days until the internet/cable are hooked up, and I get our apartment put together. Thought I'd leave ya with one of our engagement pics, we got a few back this weekend -- a friend from high school (Eva Baker) did our pictures, and is doing our wedding pics as well. Have a good couple of days -- see you from our new place!

Breakdown...
So, truth be told - my wedding is 24 days away, and my lovely apartment has just decided that we are no longer allowed to have Daisy, because she is a "restricted breed", and must be gone within 24 hours - I am FLIPPING OUT. So, she went to go stay with friends today, and now we are looking into moving in the next two weeks -- getting married in 3 weeks, and moving a whole entire flipping house in 2. WHAT.THE.HECK. So, now, we are left looking for places....so, if you know of anyone looking to rent out a townhome in Houston, or somewhere with a yard, or whatEVER, anything, that will accept dogs, please let me know. Yes, this is a truly terrifying dog...

U-verse, we have a problem...
So, my DVR box went out this morning...which is so unfair because I just bought a brand new TV on Super Bowl Sunday. Yes, my brand new 37" is sitting, waiting, wondering why the heck I'm using the teeny bedroom tv. Fortunately this didn't happen last night, because we would have had a serious issue if I had missed Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars. Oh, and by the way, my entire DVR got erased while trying to troubleshoot the problem with the AT&T guy. So.Not.Cool. Luckily, they are coming to see what the issue is tomorrow, and replace the box, and I can pack for California while watching Modern Family and The Middle -- hope they are new episodes. That is all....for now.

San Francisco Weekend

After our "big freeze" here in Houston, I am soooo ready to get away for a while. Not to mention that Tate and I are in need of a weekend to ourselves. Not that this weekend will really be to ourselves, however, I think it will just be nice to get some time in California, and to work on some of the final details for the wedding. By the way -- 39 days left until the big day...where has the time gone?!
It is supposed to get chilly here tonight, and tomorrow we are expected to possibly get ice again, so, I am hoping that all of our travel plans work out, and that we can get out of Houston okay on Thursday night...not to mention that we will be cutting it close anyway...I have a basketball game to coach on Thursday at 5pm, and if all things go as planned, as soon as the game finishes, we will be booking it to Hobby airport, hopefully getting there by 6:30! Our flight leaves at 7:40, so, at least we have a bit of a cushion...this is a carry-on only trip, but, don't worry, I will pack a duffel in case I find some good things while shopping in SF.
Look at this forecast -- soooo nice!Friday:
8:30am -- Appointment at San Francisco City Hall to get our marriage license
11:00am -- Back to the East Bay...meeting at the Claremont Hotel with our wedding coordinator to to do food tasting for the reception, and to walk the property, pick out table cloths and chiavari chairs
1:00pm -- Maybe a quick shopping trip can be squeezed in right here
4:00pm -- Dress fitting @ Joanna's
...and probably dinner at our Rehearsal Dinner site -- The Prickly Pear Cantina in Blackhawk Plaza
Exterior of SF City Hall -- it will be fun to take a picture on the steps with our marriage license!
Inside City HallSaturday:
Times not finalized yet
Mani/Pedi
Finalize cake order @ Katrina Rozelle
Deliver bridesmaid dresses to Kate and Katie
Engagement Pictures in SF with Eva Baker -- Palace of Fine Arts, and either Baker Beach, or Crissy Field

Sunday:
Sleeping in!
Brunch
Hanging out with my Grandma
Making a list of songs that we want for the wedding
Figuring out what we want our 1st Dance to be -- and the song I want to dance with my dad to
Picking out our strings selections -- I kind of want to have a contemporary song with the classical strings arrangement, I think it would be really fun.
Ahhhh, can't wait to be at home in the Bay, and to have almost everything for the wedding wrapped up! Woohoo!

Special Delivery
So, just as we were getting settled in for our "snowy night" ~ more on that later in this post...there was a knock at the door, and it was the FedEx man with two big boxes! So, after signing for my packages, I ripped them open, and there were four Vera Wang boxes -- each containing one place setting of our china, and four boxes, each containing a place setting of Kate Spade flatware. Then to top it off, a chest for the flatware! And of course, a sweet little card from my aunt -- "To Tate and Amy, Happy Valentine's Day!"....so, I called her, and said, thank you so much, but you are nuts! What a nice gift, right?! And she goes on to say that, she wanted to send us our china for Valentine's Day, and it is specifically not a wedding present, but a Valentine's Day present, so we can use it before the wedding, and I can make Tate dinner for Valentine's Day and serve it on our new plates....soooo thoughtful! Now, I am just wondering what I should make?
Our China pattern

Kate Spade Union Street flatware
I think we may get out for a bit in a little while before it freezes again when the sun goes down, but it will be all surface streets for us, no bridges or overpasses til tomorrow ;)
Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday!
